As you probably noticed we now have spelling homework. Each week students will bring home a list of spelling words in their spelling book. We encourage you to work with your child and use the outlined strategy to help them remember their spelling words. You can also use other strategies such as writing each sound in the word using a different colour pencil or put actions to the letters in the word (try and do the same action for each letter that helps make that sound). Here you can see the videos of students in JSV using actions to help them remember how to spell 'chair' and 'watch' which are our THRASS words.

ANZAC Day
This Friday we made some very yummy ANZAC biscuits. Thank you very much to Mrs Munnings and Mrs Scaife for helping us cook all the biscuits. We discovered that the biscuits were made for soldiers by their families in Australia out of ingredients that lasted a long time. That way when the soldiers got the biscuits they were still good to eat. We also read about Simpson and his donkey Duffy who helped carry the hurt soldiers to safety during World War 1. Then we had a look at the flags of some of the countries that were involved in WW1 and where they are on the map. Welcome Back
Hi everyone and welcome back to school. I hope that everyone had a lovely holiday with lots of fun and excitement.
This term we will begin our home spelling program. Each week students will come home with 5 spelling words in their spelling booklet that we would like them to learn. You can help your child at home by using our 'Study, Say, Name, Cover, Visualise, Write, Check, Practise' strategy (don't worry the steps are explained in on the front cover of the booklet if you are not sure what they mean).
JSV had a fantastic first week back and stay tuned for more great work that will appear on this Blog.
